Banksy Canvas Prints For Sale – But Who Is Banksy?

Buy Banksy Canvas Prints from Modern Canvas ArtA Banksy canvas print makes an excellent decorative addition to any space, either in the home or workplace. The canvas print industry has evolved in the last ten years and it is now possible to purchase a canvas print of a chosen image to match the décor of the space that you care to put it in. Size is no difficulty either, since many companies can accommodate requests for large canvas sizes.

So who is this Banksy character then? The answer to this question is that nobody really knows, although the UK newspaper The Daily Mail have claimed to “out” him.

It is undisputed that Banksy is from the Bristol area. According to the Daily Mail, he is from a place called Yate which is a small town just a few miles north of Bristol. The housing boom in the 80’s and 90’s and rapid expansion of new housing developments in Bristol has effectively “merged” Yate as part of Bristol. The Daily Mail claimed that Banksy’s real name is Robin Banks. That’s a great name in itself and you could even be forgiven that this “real” name is made up !

There can be no doubt that Banksy is from Bristol as the majority of his urban graffiti works began in Bristol and are dotted around the city. In fact, if you took a short tour around the city centre you would probably spot at least half a dozen works of “art” in areas such as Stokes Croft, Park Row and Park Street to name but a few.

Banksy’s work has taken him around the UK and abroad. Many of his “famous” pieces are in London and there are other works attributed to him much further afield.

Quite apart from the mystery of “who is Banksy?”, another mystery remains, namely, “how has Banksy never been spotted?”. It is generally assumed that he has a very loyal team working for him which serves to keep him undercover. It is quite possible that Banksy’s “works” are actually created by a team of people working together, or alternatively, different individuals at different sites. The individual “Banksy” may not even exist at all. Nobody really knows, but as with all “mysteries” the actual truth would shatter the myth and the hype would evaporate. People are fascinated by the “unexplained” and it is perhaps better it stays that way.

There can be no doubt that the works Banksy attributes himself to are funny, ironic and thought-provoking. Photographs of these works are available as canvas prints and you can hang one of these graffiti works in your living room to admire.

As of 2009, the band have continued to perform with their most recognised lineup of seven members, although their lineup has varied slightly over the years. They were one of the most prominent bands of the late-1970s 2 Tone ska revival.

Madness achieved most of their success in the 1980s. Both Madness and UB40 spent 214 weeks on the UK singles charts over the course of the decade, holding the record for most weeks spent by a group in the 1980s UK singles charts. However, Madness achieved this in a shorter time period (1980-1986).

Blues Brothers

The Blues Brothers are a Grammy Award-nominated American blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively in character as lead vocalist “Joliet” Jake Blues and harpist/vocalist Elwood Blues, fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians. The band made its debut as the musical guest on the April 22, 1978, episode of Saturday Night Live.

The band then began to take on a life beyond the confines of the television screen, releasing an album, Briefcase Full of Blues, in 1978, and then having a Hollywood film, The Blues Brothers, created around its characters in 1980.

After the death of Belushi in 1982, the Blues Brothers have continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. The original band reformed in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for a sequel to the film, Blues Brothers 2000. They make regular appearances at musical festivals worldwide.

Italian Job Conundrum is ‘Solved’

January 27, 2009 Leave a comment

The Royal Society of Chemistry has announced the winner of a competition to solve the conundrum at the end of the iconic UK film The Italian Job.

In the film, the robbers’ coach almost drives off a cliff, ending up balanced precariously on the edge, with the gang at one end and their gold at the other.

The RSC asked for ideas to get the gold off the coach before it tips over.

John Godwin from Surrey came up with the winning idea which involves draining fuel from the vehicle.

In the conclusion to the 1969 movie, Charlie Croker, played by Michael Caine, tries to reach the gold, but as he does so, the coach tips up dangerously.

Then gang leader Croker turns around and says: “Hang on a minute lads, I’ve got a great idea.”

So what was the idea?

Some 2,000 members of the public put forward their own theories. Many of them were from children.

Twelve-year-old Thomas Nixon’s homonym solution was for the gang to sing until they all got “frogs” in their throats. The frogs start to jump up and down which rocks the bus. They use the “rocks” to weigh down the end of the bus.

Eventually, the gang’s throats become sore from the singing. And with the “saw” they cut the gold bullion in half. Because two halves make a whole – the gang could sneak the gold through the “hole”.

But the winner, John Godwin from Godalming, had a more practical solution involving a three-stage process.

First, the coach needed to be stabilised. This involved smashing out the windows on the part of the coach overlooking the drop and smashing them inward at the front end to improve the weight ratio slightly.

One of the bullion raiders is then lowered outside and deflates the wheels to stop the coach from rocking.

Second, its weight distribution needs to be changed, particularly over the rear of the coach which is overlooking the drop. This involves emptying the fuel tank which John Godwin discovered was at the rear of the coach. This, he estimated, would contain 140kg of fuel.

Third, he would allow a member of the team to leave the coach and bring rocks in to the front of the vehicle to ensure it was stable and the gold could be removed.

“There’re several sheets of maths here,” said John Godwin.

“It was a good long day with a calculator. It’s more than 20 years since I saw the film – I remember thinking there must be some way of getting that gold off the bus.

“I always had an idea of how they might solve this – so when the Royal Society of Chemistry put this out to the public as a competition it seemed like the ideal opportunity to see if it would really work or to see if it was hot air.”
